The Marin County Triathlon has donated ALL of the proceeds of this amazing event to our very worthwhile local beneficiaries.
Over fifty thousand dollars ($50,000.00) was divided between the Lupus Foundation of Northern California, Jenny's Light, Girls on the Run and the Marin County Parks and Open Space District.

Lupus is one of America’s least recognized major diseases. More than 1.5 million Americans have lupus. In fact, more Americans have lupus than cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, sickle-cell anemia, cystic fibrosis, or AIDS, making it one of this country’s most prevalent medical problems.
However, while lupus is widespread, awareness and accurate knowledge about it lag behind many other illnesses. Lupus is on the rise, and scientists don’t know exactly why.

Beyond the serious issue of obesity, a record number of girls today suffer from eating disorders, depression and substance abuse. They also face challenges that are not as easily measured such as low self-esteem and low self-respect, lack of self-confidence, and peer pressure to fit in. Girls on the Run Bay Area is working to reverse these trends at the grass-roots level in the Bay Area.
Girls on the Run is dedicated to educating and building confidence in young girls through non-competitive, curriculum-based running programs in San Francisco, Marin, San Mateo, Alameda and Contra Costa counties.

Jenny's Light was created after the tragic and untimely passing of the twin sister of professional triathlete Becky Lavelle, Jenny Gibbs Bankston and her baby boy, Graham Gibbs Bankston, on December 19, 2007.

Jenny had suffered silently with postpartum depression and psychosis. The name of the foundation was created to reflect the 'bright light' that Jenny was to everyone who had the privilege to know her or even just to meet her. She was kind, caring, creative, funny, beautiful, poised, and athletic. Her love of life was evident to all around her.

We hope that by raising money through Jenny's Light we'll be able to help so many new mothers who suffer from this terrible disease. We want to increase awareness about the seriousness of postpartum disorders, and also educate and support women and families dealing with it, With the money raised, we plan to help fund research, get legislation passed for mandatory screening of new moms, pay for literature in hospitals, set up more support groups, advertise, support chosen efforts, and help spread hope where so many hearts may feel desperate, desolate, and dark. We hope that you will consider supporting Jenny's Light and help keep it shining brightly.
