2010 REGISTRATION NOW OPEN!
The Marin County Triathlon will be held Sunday, October 31, 2010 at McNears Beach County Park in San Rafael.
This will be the third sustainable event we have produced. Our event has beenvoted the #1 green event for 2008 by Triathlete Magazine and we achieved the first and only Evergreen Award from the Council for Responsible Sport.
This is a not for profit event. ALL proceeds are being donated to charity, which include Sunny Hills Services and Jennys Light
This amazing Olympic distance event will be USA Triathlon (USAT) sanctioned for professional, elite, celebrity and amateurs.
Athletes begin setting up their gear in preparation for the day in the transition area serenaded by a Parisian accordionist. This area of lawn will be cordoned off not by your typical barricades, but with living plants and rope.
After the instructions on the rules, swim directions and a few introductions by our seasoned announcers, our national anthem will be sung by a very special person, whom shall remain a surprise till race morning.
A sole bagpiper will then appear and lead the athletes to the swim start and the beginning of the race, located at the very south end of the beach.
In wave starts every five minutes, professionals and elites will begin, followed by amateurs based in age group divisions. The 1.5 K swim goes out and around the pier, past the three buoys and toward the shoreline, exiting back near the transition area.
After transitioning on the grass just by the swim exit, a quick climb awaits you and your bike to get out of the park (have your gears set to easy!).
Turning right onto San Pedro Road, this technical bike course follows the water for 3.5 miles before the turnaround at the Back Ranch Meadows campground entrance.
After the turnaround, the hills again await you as you return past McNear's Beach park with the turnaround on the other end just after the big downhill.
22 miles. three loops and then back into McNear's Beach Park.
Following the second transition, the 10 K run (an out and back) goes out the backside of the park along the beach and the fire road. It meets up with San Pedro Road at the green gate where you turn right and follow the same route as the bike course before turning around, back into the park, to a fast downhill finish and one great triathlon.
